How IMC Trading recruits

IMC publishes its process end to end: application review, an online assessment, a first-round interview, final rounds with different stakeholders, then the offer. You get one shot per role per recruitment season, and must wait for the next season to reapply if unsuccessful.

IMC's UK Masterclass insight events, run separately as Trading and Technology tracks and exclusively for students at UK universities, ran in London in late September last cycle.

How the process usually runs

Stages as IMC Trading describes them. Timings vary by programme, so treat this as a guide rather than a commitment.

01Application and reviewRecruiters review the CV and application before deciding whether to progress.
02Online assessmentShortlisted candidates may be sent an assessment ahead of, or instead of, an interview invite.
03First-round interviewAn introduction on both sides, covering motivation and experience.
04Final roundsStrong first-round performers meet different stakeholders across further interviews.
05OfferIMC reviews everything and aims to give feedback quickly.

Worth knowing

  • The Graduate Machine Learning Researcher role, with London as an option, asks for an MSc at minimum and prefers a PhD, in ML, statistics, deep learning or a related quantitative field.
  • Trading and quant roles typically want final-year students in mathematics, physics, econometrics or similar; no prior finance experience is required anywhere, including internships.
  • One sponsorship restriction is published, and it is narrow: IMC cannot sponsor candidates who hold citizenship of Russia, Belarus or Iran AND study at a university in one of those countries. Studying in the UK is not affected.
