How The Intake works, and the things worth knowing before you plan an application around a deadline.
What is The Intake?
- The Intake is a free, independent tracker for UK and Ireland graduate schemes, internships, industrial placements and spring weeks in technology, finance and consulting. It shows what is open, when it closes, and links straight to the real application. It needs no account to browse (saving applications to your tracker takes a free one), and it is not owned by or affiliated with any of the employers listed on it.
Do these schemes have closing dates?
- Most of them do not, and that is worth knowing before you plan around one. Nearly every employer here recruits on a rolling basis, so the advert comes down when the cohort is full rather than on a published date. That is why each listing shows when it was posted: on a rolling scheme, how long the advert has already been up is the number that tells you how much time you have left. Where an employer does publish a closing date we read it from their own system and show it.
How do you know a listing is still open?
- Every listing is read from the employer's own recruitment system rather than from a repost, and each page carries the date we last confirmed it there. When a role disappears from their system the intake leaves the tracker, and its page stays up saying it is no longer listed instead of breaking the link you saved.
How is this different from other trackers?
- Two things. The deadlines are read from each employer's own recruitment system and re-checked daily, so the Apply button goes to the exact application rather than to a careers homepage you then have to search. And every listing carries the date we last confirmed it at that source, so you can see how fresh it is rather than taking our word for it.
Which employers and roles do you cover?
- Technology, finance and consulting early careers in the UK and Ireland: graduate schemes, summer internships, industrial placements and spring weeks. Dublin counts because students in the UK apply there as a matter of course. Finance covers banking, markets, asset management, insurance and broking, actuarial and accounting work. Consulting means consulting and professional services: strategy and management consulting, technology consulting, economic consulting, and the graduate programmes of the Big Four and mid-tier firms in audit, tax, deals and consulting. We are adding employers as each part of the market is wired up, so the list grows through the season rather than arriving complete.
Why does an employer's page say nothing is open?
- Because there is genuinely nothing open there right now, and we would rather say so than invent a role. The page stays up so a link you saved still works and so it is ready the day that employer publishes their next intake. Companies recruit in waves, so a page that is empty in the summer is often busy by the autumn.
How many emails will I get?
- A short digest on Mondays: what opened, what changed and what is closing. That is the only email the site sends. No newsletter, and one press unsubscribes.
Is The Intake free for students?
- Yes. Tracking, alerts and search are free and always will be. We do not sell your email address to the employers listed.
Is there a paid version?
- There is a Premium tier, priced by the month or by the season, and everything the site does today stays free: the listings, the tracker and the weekly digest. Premium adds three things the free tracker cannot tell you: an email the morning something opens, what each employer has said about visa sponsorship for its programmes, and how long other applicants have waited at each stage of an intake. Where does the visa sponsorship information come from?
- Two places, kept separate, both part of Premium. The licence status comes from the Home Office register of licensed sponsors, joined to our employer list by legal name and dated with the register's own publication date; a licence means the organisation may sponsor, not that a particular programme comes with a visa. The programme-level statements come from employers' own careers pages, quoted with the page and the day we read them. None of it is immigration advice.
I found something wrong. How do I report it?
- Email jointheintake@gmail.com. Corrections are the most useful thing you can send: if a listing is wrong, out of date, or points somewhere it should not, tell us and it gets fixed, usually the same day.
