How Chicago Trading Company recruits

One application per position per recruiting cycle, submitted through CTC's campus board as a questionnaire plus a CV, and CTC says it will contact you only if it is interested in moving forward. The online assessment comes before anyone reads your CV: pass it and the CV review follows, so the test, not the application form, is the real first filter. Practice tests are offered once you are invited to sit it. CTC also states that applications may be reviewed by automated systems including AI. The office visit at the end is not an assessment centre: CTC describes it as happening after an offer, and at its Chicago office.

CTC's campus hub says only that "Our intern and full-time roles are posted in early fall". Neither London advert shows a posted date, a closing date or an application deadline, so that one line is the only timing CTC publishes.

How the process usually runs

Stages as Chicago Trading Company describes them. Timings vary by programme, so treat this as a guide rather than a commitment.

01Submit your applicationA questionnaire plus your CV on CTC's campus board. They say they will contact you only if they want to move forward, so no news is the answer.
02Complete an assessmentAn aptitude test of critical thinking for trading roles, or a coding challenge for engineering roles. Practice tests are offered once you are invited. Your CV is reviewed only after you pass.
03InterviewTwo parts, behavioural and technical. The behavioural half is a values check; QTA candidates get quantitative reasoning questions, SE candidates get programming questions.
04Join us in the office!Described as post-offer rather than a further hurdle: an office tour, senior leadership, current QTAs and SEs, a desk shadow and a mock trading session, at CTC's Chicago headquarters.

Worth knowing

  • Graduation dates are a hard filter. The London graduate role asks that "You will graduate between December 2026-June 2027"; the London internship asks that "You will graduate between December 2027-June 2028", which makes it a penultimate-year internship in practice.
  • Only quant trading is open in London. The Software Engineering Internship is listed under Chicago and the Associate Engineer graduate role under Chicago and New York, so UK-based engineers have no London campus route on the current board.
  • The London internship is 8 weeks, mid-June to early August 2027. The programme described on the campus hub is 10 weeks, so do not plan your summer around the longer figure.
  • London interns get a "housing stipend", not the provided accommodation CTC gives its Chicago interns in the Loop.
  • No specific degree subject is required: "All majors and concentrations welcome", with "Basic programming skills or a willingness to learn Python" and no prior finance experience needed.
  • You may submit one application per position per recruiting cycle. CTC says you can still apply for more than one role, but recommends focusing on the one closest to your skills and interests, and each application is assessed against that role's own requirements.
  • The assessment is sat before the CV is read. CTC says it reviews your CV only after you pass, so a strong CV will not carry you past a failed test.
  • Applications may be screened by automated systems including AI, per CTC's own notice on both London adverts.
  • Neither London advert says anything about visa sponsorship or the right to work in the UK. The only location condition stated is willingness to relocate to London.
