How the process usually runs

Stages as Macquarie describes them. Timings vary by programme, so treat this as a guide rather than a commitment.

Worth knowing

• One application per person for graduate and intern roles. You pick a first and second preference inside it, and the second is only considered "if we find your profile suitable for that area".
• You cannot hedge across programmes either: "You are only able to apply for one programme due to our eligibility criteria (i.e. the Summer Internship Programme or Graduate Training Programme but not both)."
• Applications close 30 October 2026 for both the Graduate Programme and the Summer Internship, but Macquarie says "We recruit on a rolling basis and may fill the roles before application window closes."
• Graduate Programme eligibility: "Be completing your final academic year of an undergraduate or master's degree." and "Have an expected graduation date from January through July 2027."
• Summer Internship eligibility: "Be in your penultimate year of an undergraduate or master's degree at the time of application." and "Have an expected graduation date from January through July 2028." Macquarie adds "Final-year students are not eligible for the Summer Internship Programme and should apply for the Graduate Programme."
• Insight Programme eligibility is narrower than the others. You must be "studying your first degree (this programme is designed for candidates with no prior experience and serves as an introduction to financial services)." and "Be completing your studies in 2029".
• "Unfortunately, PhD and MBA candidates are not eligible for our Summer Internship and Graduate Programs and will not be considered." The same exclusion is stated again for "our Spring Insight or Technology Insight Programmes".
• Visa sponsorship is possible but not promised: "Subject to a successful application, Macquarie may offer visa sponsorship for eligible candidates in accordance with local immigration laws and regulations." You must declare it upfront, because "If you require visa sponsorship to perform the role you are applying for or will require sponsorship at some point in the future, you are required to inform us during the application process."
• Graduate Programme and Summer Internship roles are listed for "Location: London, Dublin", so the London roles we track are part of a two city intake. The Insight Programme block on the same page reads "Location: London" only.
• No named degree subject is required. Macquarie says only that "Students with a strong track record of academic success are encouraged to apply."
• For technology roles Macquarie names backgrounds it thinks fit rather than a hard requirement: "May suit students interested in: Computer Science, STEM, Physics, Software Engineering, Data Science, AI, Technology, Engineering or Information Systems".
• The psychometric assessment is tight on time for students. "For early careers opportunities, you will have 48 hours." It "typically takes between one to two hours to complete" and "There is no pass or fail for the psychometric assessment."
• If you have applied to Macquarie before you may skip that stage: "Macquarie holds candidate psychometric assessment results for two years, so if you have completed an assessment within the last two years, you will not be required to complete this again."
• Macquarie sets explicit rules on AI. "You will not be allowed to use AI during your psychometric assessment." and, for the video interview, "please do not use AI during the video interview to answer the questions".
• The Insight Programme has a shorter process: "If you have applied to our Insight Programme, you will not be required to attend further interview. Offers for our Insight Programme are made following the video interview."
• Insight is a route in rather than a dead end: "You will also have the opportunity to be fast tracked for the Macquarie Summer Internship Programme." and "High-performing summer interns may be considered for our Graduate Programme".
• Off-cycle internships run to "Programme dates: three to six months, year-round" and "Off-cycle opportunities take place in London, Frankfurt, Madrid, Amsterdam, and Paris". "We recruit on an ad hoc basis and deadlines vary by placement and location." Be aware Macquarie's two pages disagree on who can apply: the hub says "Eligibility: Final-year students, gap-year students and recent graduates" while the FAQ says "To be eligible, you must be studying for an undergraduate degree."
• There is also a Junior Associate Programme, a part-time placement rather than a summer role. It "offers up to two-year placement opportunities across our business and support functions in London." and "Students join us in their penultimate year of university for the full academic year and gain valuable work experience by working with Macquarie two days per week whilst they complete their degree."
• If you are looking for a school leaver route, there is not one: "No, Macquarie does not run a formal Work Experience or Apprenticeship Programme."
• If you get an offer you will not have long to decide. "If you are successful, you'll be contacted by your Recruiter with an offer and you will have seven days to accept your offer." and "You will be required to complete employment screening before you commence."
