How J.P. Morgan recruits

You apply to each programme separately on J.P. Morgan's own system, and the firm reviews applications as they arrive rather than after the deadline. The Global Markets advert says "We fill our classes on a rolling basis and encourage early applications". The investment banking advert is blunter, telling you to apply "as soon as possible, since programs will close as positions are filled". The firm's own FAQ confirms this runs both ways: if you are holding an offer elsewhere, it is "unable to accelerate our decision-making process". There is a soft cap on how wide you spread yourself. The FAQ says "We recommend you focus on no more than three summer internship program applications", and the Markets advert asks you to "apply to one Markets program only". Once you submit you cannot edit: "Once an application is submitted, you are not able to make any changes." There is no reapplication bar, and if you were not selected before you "can submit a new application for the same program in future program years".

On 6 September 2026 J.P. Morgan's own recruiting system listed 45 live UK student roles. Most of the 2027 adverts were posted on 31 August 2026, and all 41 of the live 2027 UK roles carry a posting end date of 1 November 2026. Nineteen of them also print the date in the advert text, for example "Application deadline: 1st November 2026" on the Global Corporate Banking internship. Treat that date as a backstop rather than a target, because the same adverts say classes are filled on a rolling basis and close once they are full. Two Glasgow events, Code for Good and Data for Good, close earlier, on 9 October 2026.

How the process usually runs

Stages as J.P. Morgan describes them. Timings vary by programme, so treat this as a guide rather than a commitment.

01Submit a complete application with your CVTheir words: "Help us learn about you by submitting a complete and thoughtful application, which includes your resume." They ask you to complete all relevant application questions, not just the mandatory ones.
02Application review against required qualifications"After you confirm your application, we will review it to determine whether you meet certain required qualifications."
03HireVue video interview, or a HackerRank coding challenge for software engineeringWhich one you get depends on the business. Most programmes use HireVue, and it is a hard gate: "Completion of the HireVue video interview is required, and your application will not be considered for further review until you have completed it." Software engineering instead sets "a coding challenge powered by HackerRank", gated the same way. Global Markets adds a second element, inviting you to complete "(1) a video interview and (2) a math test, powered by HireVue". Quantitative Research Markets sets both, a HackerRank challenge "followed by a self-recorded video assessment via HireVue".
04Virtual SuperdayPublished on some adverts but not all. The software engineering advert says "If you progress further, you'll get an email invitation for a virtual Superday." The Commercial and Investment Banking Risk advert says "If successful you'll progress to a Superday, further information will be provided". The investment banking advert stops at the HireVue stage and does not describe what follows.

Worth knowing

  • The published closing date for the 2027 UK programmes is 1 November 2026, and every live 2027 UK advert carries that date. The adverts still warn that "programs will close as positions are filled", so applying in September is materially different from applying in late October.
  • Two Glasgow events close three weeks earlier than everything else. Code for Good and Data for Good both close on 9 October 2026.
  • Code for Good is a two day hackathon rather than an internship, and it is a route in. J.P. Morgan says taking part "may also lead to an opportunity for you to learn more about and be considered for a 2027 Software Engineer Program Summer Internship".
  • There is a 12 month industrial placement, in Glasgow only, on the Software Engineer Program. It wants graduation between January 2029 and July 2029, so it is aimed at students taking a placement year.
  • The assessment differs by business. Most programmes use a HireVue video interview. Software engineering instead sets a HackerRank coding challenge, and Quantitative Research Markets sets both.
  • Degree requirements differ by business. Investment banking asks you to be "on-track for a United Kingdom 2:1 Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)". Global Markets and the Commercial and Investment Banking Risk programme are open to any subject, with Markets saying "We welcome applications from all degree disciplines".
  • Graduation windows are narrow and vary by programme, so check the one you want. Global Markets accepts a "Graduation date from June 2027 to August 2028", software engineering and Asset Management Investments want January 2028 to July 2028, Data and AI wants December 2027 to June 2028, and the Glasgow industrial placement and Immersion programme want January 2029 to July 2029.
  • Do not register with your university email. The Global Markets advert tells you not to use an address with a .edu or .ac.uk extension, "as doing so could result in delays receiving updates regarding your candidacy".
  • You cannot edit a submitted application. To change one you have to withdraw it, then "create a new profile with a different email address and submit a new application". Get it right first time.
  • The firm recommends "no more than three summer internship program applications" a year, and only one Markets programme.
  • UK roles are not London only. Software engineering runs in Glasgow and London, corporate functions internships run in London, Edinburgh and Bournemouth, and the Global Private Bank analyst training programme covers London, Manchester and Edinburgh.
  • Quantitative Research in London is advertised as off-cycle rather than as a summer programme, so the dates will not match a standard summer internship.
  • The Global Markets internship is "a nine-week program running from June to August, targeted at penultimate year or final year students", and nine weeks is the standard length across the London summer internships. Investment banking states "Top performers may receive a 2028 full-time analyst offer at the end of the summer."
  • No UK salary is published on any advert. The Global Finance and Business Management adverts offer only "an exceptional benefits programme and a highly competitive compensation package", with no figure.
