GE Aerospace runs 12 month industrial placements and graduate programmes in the UK. It lists its UK sites as Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Eastleigh, Feltham, Gloucester and Prestwick, with placement areas including Software Engineering, Digital Technology, Data Science, Quality and Supply Chain Management. The placements feed directly into its "2 year rotational development programmes": the Software Engineering placement is "an intended pipeline to our Edison Engineering Development Programme (EEDP)" and the Digital Technology one a pipeline to the Digital Technology Leadership Programme.

How GE Aerospace recruits

One application only. The adverts say "Please only submit one application. If you submit multiple applications, we will progress the most suitable one", and the FAQ says "You can only apply for one placement, but we will discuss with you if we feel your application is better suited to a different opportunity". You do not pick a site on the form: each advert covers several sites, and GE says "during the process we will ask you to share your location and role preferences". There is a published closing date, but treat it as a ceiling rather than a target, because the adverts warn applications "may close earlier dependant on application volumes" and tell you to "apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment". The 2027 placements opened on 6 September 2026. GE Aerospace's own Workday listings for both the Digital Technology and Software Engineering placements record "postedOn":"Posted Today","startDate":"2026-09-06" and "endDate":"2026-10-31", and both adverts say "Please note our applications will close on Saturday 31st October but may close earlier dependant on application volumes." 31 October 2026 is a Saturday, so the year is unambiguous. The FAQ states the pattern more generally: "Our Early careers opportunities open in the Autumn and close at the end of October." The same sentence was live on 10 October 2025, so this is a repeating autumn cycle rather than a one off. The placements themselves start "typically from mid-June to July".

How the process usually runs

Stages as GE Aerospace describes them. Timings vary by programme, so treat this as a guide rather than a commitment.

Worth knowing

  • Applications close on Saturday 31 October 2026, but the adverts warn they "may close earlier dependant on application volumes" and tell you to "apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment". Treat the date as a ceiling, not a target.
  • There is no visa sponsorship. GE says "sponsorship is not available for our Early Careers opportunities", and that placements feed graduate roles "so you would need the permanent right to work to be eligible".
  • One application only. If you submit more, GE says "we will progress the most suitable one", and it will consider you automatically for other suitable openings.
  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance "is required and must be maintained for this role" on both placements we read, and an offer can be withdrawn if it cannot be obtained.
  • Some roles go further. The Digital Technology advert says UK Security Clearance "may be required" for "some of our placement roles", and that some are "restricted to candidates who are a British National, or a dual National where one of the dual nationalities is British".
  • Both placements we read ask you to be "On course to achieve a 2:1 degree or above" and "To be in your penultimate year of study and returning to education post placement".
  • If you have already graduated you cannot take a placement. The FAQ says "Our placement students are for those returning back to education."
  • No salary is published anywhere on GE's own pages. The FAQ says only "Yes, all our roles are full time paid jobs. We will discuss the details of this at offer stage."
  • Placements run "typically from mid-June to July", with exact dates "site dependent and will be shared during the recruitment process".
  • You do not choose your site on the form. The Software Engineering placement covers Bristol and Cheltenham, the Digital Technology one covers Cardiff, Prestwick, Cheltenham and Gloucester, and GE asks for "your location and role preferences" during the process.
  • The placement is a route to a graduate offer before your final year. GE says you can go back to university "with a graduate job offer in hand. All you need to do is secure a 2,1 degree or above!"
  • GE bans AI assistance in its hiring. Its job pages say "unauthorized use of AI tools during interviews may result in disqualification from the hiring process".
  • The Software Engineering placement asks for "Programming experience in at least one of C#, Java, or Python, with willingness to work across more than one language".
  • The graduate programmes run a different process from the placements. After the application, the FAQ says "The next stage would be a video interview and then assessment day."
